BASILICA Schedule

WEEKDAY MASS

Monday to Friday at 12:10 PM
WEEKEND MASSES
Saturday 5 p.m.

Sunday at 9, 11:00 AM (Choir) & 5:00 PM

Free parking is available for parishioners attending Weekend Mass in the new HEC building; enter from de la Gauchetiere, then follow the signs to exit by the front of the Basilica. At the end of Mass ask one of our employees for the coupon that will allow you exit the HEC Parking

Hearing-Impaired Worshippers

St. Patrick’s Basilica’s sound system is equipped with an audio system that enables hearing-impaired worshippers to tune their digital receiver into the frequency of the system in order to receive a broadcast of the Mass. If you wish to avail yourselves of this please bring your own digital receiver and earphones and tune into 88.1 FM.

About the basilica

Saint Patrick’s Parish is a welcoming and reconciling community. Beginning with our deep roots in the Irish diaspora we have developed into a diverse and dynamic group from many backgrounds joining together as parishioners of the Mother Church of Montreal’s English Speaking Catholics. Msgr. Francis J. Coyle, pastor, and Fr. Robert Pierre-Louis, Assistant Priest, lead and guide our downtown congregation.

Our history

Saint Patrick’s Church opened its doors on March 17th, 1847
to serve the needs of the growing Irish community in Montreal and just in time for the wave of Irish immigrants escaping famine and other troubles in Ireland.

The church is built in the Gothic Revival style on a
promontory overlooking the City of Montreal. Its
spire could be seen by all. Over the years the city
grew north, east and west with the result that the
church is now surrounded by modern-day Montreal and facing backwards!

Saint Patrick’s was raised to the status of Minor
Basilica by His Holiness, Pope John-Paul II in 1989.
The Basilica is designated as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1996 and a Monument National of Quebec in 1985.

One hundred per cent of any donation to the Foundation is spent on our buildings and their historical value. We work very closely with our Heritage Architects, EVOQ. We are currently working with the City of Montreal on a beautiful landscape project that will see the slope in the front of the Basilica back to its pre parking lot days and return a much needed Green Space to Downtown Montreal.

St. Patrick’s Restoration Foundation

Saint Patrick’s Restoration Foundation was set up in 1988 to restore and renovate Saint Patrick’s Basilica, its ancillary buildings and land. Since that time private donors in partnership with the Quebec and Canadian Governments have invested over 12 million dollars on various projects.
